Strength Bamboo and rattan are both good at assimilated water and calorific capacity, which means they will be suitable to be used in Taiwan, a hot and humid island. What’s more, they are obtained from nature instead of man-made ingredients. In addition, the weather in Taiwan is suitable for bamboo and rattan to grow. Because of the long history of bamboo and rattan weaving, it plays a significant role in Taiwan's culture and tradition. Weakness Making a product with bamboo or rattan, all hand-made, would be a time-consuming work. For instance, a master with much experience needs all day to make one chair only, in which factories can make huge amount of chairs at the same time.
Opportunity The pursuit of refinement is a suitable way for bamboo and rattan weaving to go along. Make customers see these products as boutiques may increase their desire to buy them. Academic tend will also be a fantastic way. For instance, the experienced Master told us that a professor in college had visited him and learned some techniques, and the Master had even taught a German before. Our team will visit Australia to teach children about our culture this summer, and we are planning to tell them about this amazing craft, too. Recently, the Taiwanese government are devoted to protect traditional culture, providing fund and chance. Which means, if the Masters can’t earn enough of their living by selling products, the fund given by government might add up their will to preserve these crafts. Last but not the least, our website can create an opportunity for bamboo and rattan weaving! That is, let people over the world understand how valuable they are! In addition,we can remind Taiwanese about their childhood memories, sleeping in bamboo chairs and grandma’s warm hand holding a rattan fan. As young students knowing the value about it, waking Taiwanese conscious of protecting this disappearing craft is our responsibility.
Threat Because products made of bamboo and rattan are quite expensive, most people prefer cheaper plastic product. Which means that less young people are willing to do it for a living. If young people don't learn this craft, it would certainly disappear before long.
